Oh, The Games We Play

Yesterday, I spent 5 hours of my life trying to tether my blackberry to my Mac. I want to suck 3G onto my computer whenever and wherever I want, and since I bought the phone two months ago, every representative I've encountered has told me this is possible.

So yesterday I spent an hour on the phone with Victor trying to install the software; he couldn't figure it out and sent me to the store, promising they could download it. Two hours at the store and two phone calls to data support later, a representative finally tells me that it is impossible to tether my Blackberry to my Mac. Not even God could make it happen. And at this point, I'm pretty pissed.

The whole situation reminded me of an article I read on AskMen.com. This man, we'll call him Bob, wrote to Doc Love because he felt his girlfriend was slipping away. "I've followed The System to a tee, man," he wrote. "When I feel her getting too close, I pull away, cause, you know, I want her to stay interested. I really love her, but I pretend I don't and won't give her a straight answer to her questions. It's worked for the last six months, but recently I've felt her slipping away. I think she's getting frustrated. I don't know what to do!"

Umm, OK. Ever thought about dropping the mystery strategy and answering her questions? I know men and women often adopt mystery and intrigue to woo, and keep, a lover. I get the theory and think that, to an extent, it works. I mean, look at Twilight. Edward couldn't read Bella's mind, so he became obsessed with her and now they'll be together for eternity (It's true. Twilight has an answer for everything. DISCLAIMER: I'm in love with Twilight.).

Eventually, however, intrigue will morph into frustration and anger. Like with me and Verizon. And guess what happened? I spent a good 3 hours considering getting an iPhone and switching to ATT . . . of course then I threw a temper tantrum and got 3 months of free under the table mobile broadband. So maybe this is a moot point.
